Overview

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the largest in history — 48 teams, 104 matches, across 16 host cities in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Vancouver (BC Place) is one of three Canadian host cities alongside Toronto and Winnipeg.

The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Vancouver's matches are concentrated in the group stage during June, with a potential knockout round match in July.

Note: The complete detailed schedule with specific team matchups is released by FIFA as the draw is conducted. Check fifa.com for the authoritative, up-to-date schedule.

Group Stage

Vancouver is confirmed as a group stage venue. BC Place will host multiple group matches across the first two and a half weeks of the tournament. Group stage matches feature three games per group (48 groups of 3 teams in 2026's expanded format), with each team playing once per group.

For group stage matches: atmosphere is excellent, tickets are more accessible than knockout rounds, and you see two different national teams play — making it the best opportunity to experience the tournament if you're not a fan of a specific nation.

Knockout Stage

Whether Vancouver hosts knockout matches beyond the group stage depends on FIFA's venue allocation, announced closer to the tournament. Host cities that demonstrate strong ticket sales and operational success during the group stage are more likely to receive knockout matches. Previous World Cup history suggests 3–4 host cities per country receive knockout round matches beyond the Round of 32.

Match Times & Kickoffs

FIFA typically schedules matches across multiple time windows to balance broadcast rights across global time zones. For matches in Vancouver (Pacific Time, UTC-7 in summer), common kickoff times are expected to be:

Specific kickoff times for all BC Place matches will be confirmed by FIFA on the official schedule announcement.

Getting Tickets

Tickets are sold through FIFA's official ticketing platform at fifa.com. The initial sales phases allocated tickets by ballot. Remaining inventory goes on sale on a first-come, first-served basis. The FIFA Ticket Exchange handles the official resale market.

Hospitality packages (including premium seating, food, and pre-match events) are sold through FIFA's official hospitality arm. These are significantly more expensive but include guaranteed seating and a premium experience.

Other Host Cities

If you're combining Vancouver with matches elsewhere, the other nearby host cities are worth considering. Toronto (BMO Field expanded) is a direct flight east. Kansas City, Seattle, and San Francisco are a 2–3 hour flight south. Many fans are planning multi-city itineraries around their national team's group placement.

The full 48-nation draw will reveal which groups contain the most high-profile matchups and which venues are likely to have the most atmosphere — useful for planning if you're flexible about which matches to attend.
